Hello CSA members!!!
Summer is back! Well, at least until Friday. Pretty wild how we can go from record cold one week, and then record warmth the next. Well, I’d like to think it’s wild, but anymore it seems like that is becoming the new “norm”. Farming is already a challenging occupation, so I can’t say I’m exactly looking forward to farming in a ever-increasingly variable and extreme climate. Sorry, that was such a downer statement !!, for a farm newsletter no less:) I just had to give a nod to the UN Climate Summit taking place in New York this week. Since addressing the causes climate change doesn’t even seem to be on the table (did you know that the US, China, and India all had increases in emissions of CO2 this year?), I wonder what grand ideas they’ll come up with for “mitigating” it’s affects on the world? OK, back to the farm…
We’ve been busy taking down our hoop houses, pulling irrigation out of the field, hauling manure, prepping to build new high tunnels, and summer fallowing a new field so we’ll be ready to hit the ground running next spring.
Cultivating to kill grass in preparation for next season
This is the second to last week of the CSA. If you would like to order any bulk carrots, onions, or winter squash (Salmon River, Acorn, Buttercup, and Delicata), just send us an email and we can bring it to the last CSA delivery next week. Just to clarify, pickup next week will be exactly the same as any other week (same days, times, and locations)….the only difference is that we will be giving you the remainder of you CSA rather than spreading it out over two weeks, thus saving both you and us from making an extra trip.
