Hello CSA members!
The odd result of a really hot spring and a cool July has manifested it in the form of the best broccoli harvest of the season. Broccoli prefers to grow in cool temps, so when May and June were record hot, the broccoli really struggled to reach it’s full potential and a time when it should be at its best. And typically July and August don’t produce good broccoli because it’s to hot. Well, that’s all been flipped on it’s head. Today we harvested lots of perfect broccoli, which is a treat for early August. The cauliflower has also hit full stride this week, the tomatoes are starting to really produce, and warm weather crops are really getting into form.
It’s been a long harvest day, with many hours spent in the squash, cauliflower, and broccoli. So, I’m going to keep it short and sweet this time around.
Thinking of fall year during this July heat? How about some comfort food for the next cold front? Here’s a simple recipe for your potatoes and broccoli?
Too heavy you say?…… well how about this light broccoli recipe? The author claims it’s the best recipe ever.
Or maybe you’re from the midwest and missing home a bit….here’s a cheesy baked cauliflower recipe to help.
I think I am a bit calorie starved from weekend activities and harvest today, because every recipe with cheese in it looks really appealing right now. Well, hopefully the smoke blows out of the valley tonight, and we’ll be able to see you at CSA pickup tomorrow.
