Hello CSA members!

Today was a good day on the farm. The day when reinforcements arrived. One part-time helper and two more full-time employees to add to the existing crew. As I stood in front of this veritable army of young farmers, coming together to serve a common cause, I felt proud. And powerful. Like that guy in Apocalypse Now! (you know the scene), going into battle in the helicopters, “Ride of the Valkyries” blaring over the loudspeakers. Yep, that’s how I felt. Maybe a bit less macho, given I was driving a golf cart named “Willy”, with flames painted on the side, but powerful none-the-less. I know it’s not politically correct in this age of regenerative agriculture to talk about the War on Weeds, but forgive me this once. Even in an organic system, where we do every thing possible to work “with” nature, there is something very gratifying about liberating your plants from the oppressive regime of the invading weeds. I love the smell of bag balm in the morning.

For chapped hands…really, it’s quite effective.

This week the farm shifted gears a bit. For starters, the first of the carrots are ready. Yep, it’s true. We did our best to grow you those little Bunny Luv style carrots, but it appears we have failed at that attempt, and they are slightly bigger than that. But, they are still extremely tasty, so you’ll have to forgive us. The broccolini is in full swing, we have a beautiful bed of Hakurei Salad Turnips, and cabbage and broccoli are only a week away.

If you didn’t experience pan fried turnips last time, here’s another chance! And for those looking for a new Baby Bok Choy recipe, I noticed that morel mushrooms are popping up. In fact, I know you can find some at The Wicked Good Farm market tent on Tuesday. Which would give you the key ingredients for this tasty recipe

Enjoy the sunshine before spring re-emerges at week’s end! We’ll see you at CSA pickup!
