Hello CSA Members!

The website is down!  And I could hardly care less.  After harvesting hundreds of cauliflower, washing 190 pounds of salad mix, packing wholesale orders for Wicked Good Produce, and replacing a hot water heater in an employee cabin, the very last thing I am willing to do at the moment is tangle with a website.  So this week you get the newsletter via email. Not sure if you’ll get photos, but it should work well enough

I dare even suggest it, but it would appear the mosquito pressure is easing a bit on the farm.  Not at dusk, but the mornings and hot days have been a bit better the last few days. After three rough weeks, there is cautious optimism.

 It helps that he farm production is looking good, and a lot of the crops planted after the flooding are starting to mature.  The corn is now 8 feet tall (I’ve never seen this variety that tall!).  I pulled a sample garlic bulb to judge where it’s at relative to timing it’s harvest, and not only is the bulb huge, but the neck is about double the thickness compared to normal.

We have finally reached the point where the field carrots are ready for harvest, so this week kicks off the carrot marathon through the end of the year.  At this point, we are harvesting and washing 700 bunches per week, on top of all the other harvest and farm work.  But, it’s good to finally have them back in the rotation!  Between the two farmer’s markets, The CSA, and The Farrmers’ Stand, there is a lot of pent up carrot demand out there in our community!  

The cucumbers are also pumping out fruit, so we’ll go heavy on those this week.  Given how hot it is this week, they should be a nice refreshing treat.  Unlike last year, the salad mix successions have lined up well and so we’ll try to continue to get you salad every week if possible.  The sun gold tomato plants are six feet tall and loaded with green tomatoes, so we’re just waiting for them to ripen….a common past time here in Montana!

Ok, I lied a bit. I couldn’t fix the website even if I tried. That task falls to Rebecca, who has a bizarre talent for making websites. And in the time I wrote this newsletter, she managed to get it fixed. So, we’re back up and running! We hope everyone enjoys their CSA this week!
